After only seven seasons and 50 events, Jason Scherer has rapidly written his name all over the off-road record books, most recently by winning the 2009 King of the Hammers championship.

The Danville, CA native led the race within the first 20 miles and despite having some mechanical difficulties, he was able to regain the lead and finish not only first to the finish line, but first on adjusted time, by almost 20 minutes.
Since Scherer made his off-road debut in 2002 his 12 career wins are place him highest among active drivers all-time wins list for the number of races entered. He has also earned 4 championships, something that takes consistency and determination.

The 32-year-old Californian clinched his first championship in 2006 finishing 256 points ahead of the second-place finisher in the Pro-Rock Series. That same year he won half the UROC events in his proven vehicle, nicknamed “Tiny”.

But Scherer’s impact isn’t limited to competitive events.

Scherer and his wife, Dana, have a passion for off-road trails. Since being married by long-time friend and mentor, Bob Rice, on the Rubicon Trail, they’ve preserved the trails for future generations. Upon winning the 2009 King of The Hammers $10,000 purse, he announced in the awards ceremony that he would be donating 10% of the win to trail preservation.

While Scherer’s success on and off the track has come in a relatively short amount of time, it took years of hard work, dedication and help from a variety of people to get there.

Scherer’s racing career started on bicycles. At twelve years old he had set-up a course in the construction areas near his house and practiced every day until daylight had passed. When he finally entered his first event, he took the field by surprise and won all three events.
From BMX bikes, Scherer graduated to the Go-Karts. Running against racer such as IRL sensation Brian Herta, Scherer set fast lap time at the Perris Raceway 6 hour Enduro.
Taking many of the skills learned from BMX, Scherer proceeded to race motocross enduro’s , Snowmobile hill climbs and then a new opportunity arose from a friend at Dirt Sports Magazine. Scherer was invited by friend, Chris Corbett, to join him in running the Baja 1000, and of course for a good cause, a fund raiser for Autism Awareness. Scherer seized the opportunity and while the first race didn’t make the finish, in 2008 the first place trophy became another notch in the belt. Along the way being part of a fourth place finish for Trophy Truck driver Pete Sorhen and pushing hard with long-time teammate Lance Clifford honed a skill-set that would become valuable as the rock crawling sport evolved into a combined sport incorporating both desert racing and rock crawling.
With knowledge of both and the new direction of the sport, Scherer turned to the best in the off-road industry to build a new vehicle to integrate both aspects. The car jointly built by Campbell Enterprises and Shaffer’s off-road has proven to be the perfect weapon. Nothing stands out as uniquely different from anything that has been done before, but every part works in harmony with the other and the tuning of each component has made this the fastest car to the finish line.
